Horti Leonini

In the heart of San Quirico d’Orcia, the Horti Leonini are one of the most fascinating and distinctive examples of an Italian Renaissance garden, beautifully set between the medieval walls and the historic centre of the village.

Created around 1580 by Diomede Leoni, the gardens stand out for their harmonious and scenic layout: a large green space opening into a striking perspective axis, enhanced by perfectly geometric boxwood parterres. This balance between order, nature and architecture creates a unique setting where landscape and history meet.

The garden, open to the public and freely accessible, is crossed by tree-lined paths leading to the upper section dominated by the statue of Cosimo III de’ Medici, offering ever-changing views and a timeless atmosphere of calm and beauty. Today, the Horti Leonini are an ideal place for a relaxing walk, immersed in the light and colours of the Val d’Orcia.
